Haverhill Two's travelled to Ipswich to take on DBSL in their latest match. The home side batted first on a pitch which could be described as 'helpful' to the bowlers.
Rus Davis and Josh Meekings bowled with great control and beat the bat on numerous occasions but had no luck, however, ill discipline by other bowlers coupled with some poor fielding meant at the halfway stage of their innings, DBSL stood at 72-1.
A five minute delay due to a swarm of thousands of bees sent the players scurrying to the dressing roomand this gave the chance for the Haverhill side to regroup and after the stoppage the fielding was much sharper and at the end of their innings, DBSL had been restricted to 131-6, Nurul Hoque taking 3 wickets and Dan Webb 2.
Due to the nature of the pitch, this was a tough ask and it soon be came apparent that with controlled bowling by the DBSL opening seamers, Haverhill were reduced to a precarious 18-5.The game looked lost but sensible batting by first Josh Meekings(30) and some belligerent hitting by Rus Davis(54), who were ably assisted by Steve Fox and Dan Webb, saw Haverhill in sight of victory but, as with last week, the last wicket went down with5 runs needed for the win hence another close defeat.
Skipper Poole said' Disappointed with the performance this week as the pitch was a 'minefield' but we bowled too many loose deliveries and gave away too many runs. Special mentions this week to thetight bowling and excellent batting ofRussell Davis and Josh Meekings, who showed some of the older members of the side how it should be done'.
Haverhill have a double header this week against Brockley, the firsts at home and the twos are away. |
