Haverhill were again asked to bat and openers J.Poole and P.Jones put on 57 in 11 overs before Poole was dismissed. After Jones(38) was caught behind with the score on 96, an excellent partnership developed between Steve Taylor and Mick Rinaldi and both players hit the ball to all parts of the ground, Taylor was eventually out for 60 with the score on 200.

Chris Thompson joined Rinaldi and a quick fire partnership of 60 was only ended when Rinaldi was superbly caught on the boundary for a well made 90.

Haverhill finished on 274-4 with Thompson 32no.

West Mersea started their reply steadily with tight bowling from Davis and Hoque restricting the run rate. The first wicket fell on 26 but some big hitting by the next pair had Haverhill briefly on the back foot.

Spinner Dan Webb was introduced into the attack and with just his second ball he removed dangerman Conway. An excellent spell of 3-19 by Webb restricted the Mersea middle order and then excellent support bowling from the young Haverhill bowlers saw Mersea bowled out for 163, the last six wickets being shared by Josh Meekings 2-33, Steve Fox 2-25 and Chris Thompson 2-23.

Skipper Poole said ' Another good team effort but pleasing to see Steve and Micky roll back the years and both play excellent innings.I'd also like to thank the groundstaff, especially Jon Watkins, for producing another excellent wicket in spite of all the recent unsettled weather'

This week the Seconds are away to Maldon while the Firsts are at Home to Tuddenham.
