On an overcast and blustery afternoon at Manor Road the Haverhill Sunday team played host to Ampton & Culford. Haverhill skipper Graham Brandejs won the toss and bowled . Ampton & Culford openers started with two fours in the first over , then went for a quick single and were undone by the fast and accurate throwing of Joe Woodley. Steady progress was then made by the visitors who got to 44 before the loss of their second wicket.
Some very accurate and economical bowling then followed particularly from Dan Poole and Joe Woodley . Wickets were falling regularly but South African opener Terblache was scoring freely , until finally after lasting for eighty minutes he was very well caught by Dean Sharpe off the bowling of Joe Woodley. Ampton & Culford were finally bowled out for 159 .
What followed was a mix of good accurate bowling from the two Ampton opening bowlers and poor shot selection from the higher order . Haverhill were reduced to a reply of 36 for 5 after 17 overs .
A fine innings from Joe Woodley followed with able support from Steven Fox . Joe was eventually out for a valiant 68 , Steven Fox was not out at the end on 31 . Haverhill’s reply was twenty runs short of the target .
