New captain Graham Brandejs won the toss and batted . Opening batsmen Phil Jones and Dave Godwin got the scoreboard up to 21 before Dave Godwin was bowled . Phil Dingley came in to join Phil Jones and what followed was a wonderful partnership of 128 before Phil Dingley was well caught on the mid-on boundary for 52 off the bowling of Cavendish captain Alasdair North. Dan Poole then kept Phil Jones company and the pair put on another 59 runs together , before Dan edged a ball from Alasdair North to the keeper for 15. Next into join Phil Jones was Chris Thompson but after another 5 runs were added to the score Chris departed to a very sharp catch at mid wicket . Joe Woodley joined Phil Jones and another 51 partnership ensued during which time Phil Jones reached his century . Phil eventually succumbed with an edge to the keeper off the bowling of Turner for a magnificent 122 runs . With 15 balls of the inning remaining Graham Brandejs joined Joe Woodley and together the pair put on another 26 runs without loss . Haverhill had posted a formidable score of 269 in their 40 overs.

The Cavendish innings started brightly with boundaries coming from both openers . The score reached 18 before Russell Davis clean bowled Smith for 14 at the end of the third over . Next to go was Skelton for 9 , very well caught by Dan Poole off the bowling of Joe Woodley . The score was now 45 for 2 after 8 overs . Great pressure was applied by the opening bowlers Davis and Woodley , but was then increased by a superb spells of bowling from Dan Poole and Chris Thompson with able support from Joey Kettle . The wickets fell regularly and Cavendish were bowled out for a total of 90 after 23 overs. Joe Woodley , Russell Davis and Chris Thompson finished with two apiece with a first senior wicket for Joey Kettle while Dan Poole finished with the exceptional figures of 3 wickets for only 2 runs in four overs.

Great team spirit was demonstrated by all the Haverhill players in this performance which is an extremely encouraging start to the season .
