Haverhill prepares for a return visit of the international star players of Lashings World XI – the world’s greatest cricket club side.

Haverhill Cricket Club is delighted to announce their plans for a repeat of last year’s event that will take place on Thursday 21^st August 2008 at The Manor Road Ground, Haverhill. Haverhill cricketers will be taking on the renowned Lashings World XI team to help raise funds for the clubs youth coaching program.

Last years event, although badly affected by the weather, still managed to raise sufficient funds to help in the process of building a much needed practice net facility. This new facility is due to be completed and in use by the end of April.

Lashings World XI ‘s line up reads like the who’s who of world cricket, with legends such as Richie Richardson (WI), Alvin Kallicharran (WI) and Phil Defreitas (ENG), alongside current stars such as Chris Cairns, Rashid Latif, Dinesh Mongia and Marvan Atapattu. Although this may seem an impossible challenge, the game does promise a day of fun for all involved.

Jon Watkins, player and current Groundsman said “This will be a great occasion, not only for the club and the players, but also for the spectators who are lucky enough to get to see the match. Hopefully the weather will be kinder to us this year and we will get to see the Lashings Players in better conditions..!”

The aim of the day is not only to enjoy quality cricket but also to raise money to provide better coaching facilities for the clubs Youth Cricket Academy. The Club only started this Youth Academy two years ago but have already had 100 players form the ages of 7 to 15 sign on last year and expect this number to increase to 120 this coming season! The Club expects to have at least 4 youth team players representing Haverhill at County Level during the coming season.

Haverhill Cricket Club is making provision for corporate hospitality at the event, offering local and national businesses the chance to meet the cricketing superstars and even have one join you for lunch on your table.
