Haverhill II first game of the season in the Hunts County Bats Division 2 was kindly sponsored by ELECTRICKEMP - Electrician (01440 712570) and they entertained Mildenhall III who themselves were fresh from winning the third division title last season.

Mildenhall elected to bat on a sunny afternoon on what looked to be a super batting track, however opening bowler Phil Weston struck in the very first over to put the visitors on the back foot.

The Haverhill attack kept the run rate down at the halfway stage and limited Mildenhall to 70-2. The second half of the innings was a complete transition, with South African Premier league player Fran Bester going on to make 146 not out ably assisted by Steve Lankester who made 80 not out. Mildenhall finished on an imposing total of 248.

Haverhill openers Julian Poole and Greg Street set about the reply in sensible fashion moving the score on to 73 after 17 overs before Julian fell for 28. Greg Street then went on almost single handedly to take on the Mildenhall attack and with the wickets falling regularly at the other end Greg finally was caught behind for a magnificent career high of 137 wielding 15 fours and 5 sixes.

Haverhill finally fell 23 runs short on 225-7, a great effort and a great game to start the season off. Skipper Nurul Hoque was quick to praise his teams efforts saying "the lads put 100% effort in against a very good side which included several quality higher league batsmen, but Greg's innings was fantastic and it all bodes well for the rest of the season"
